Lead forms, audiences and budgets, set up with care

Platforms control delivery and pricing. A partner sets up the campaigns, watches spend and changes what is in their hands to change.

When special ad categories apply

Meta requires advertisers to declare a special ad category when ads relate to housing, employment, credit or other financial products, or social issues, elections and politics. Declaring it limits targeting: age, gender and ZIP code targeting are restricted, some detailed targeting options are removed, and lookalike audiences are replaced by a more limited option.

This catches some B2B advertisers by surprise. A recruiting agency, a lender to small businesses or a property management company may fall into a category even though they sell to businesses. LinkedIn has its own advertising policies for similar areas.

A provider should ask about this at the start, because a campaign set up in the wrong category can be rejected or restricted. Whether an offer falls in a category is ultimately your call, ideally checked with your own counsel.

Audiences, built and maintained

Audience work is a large share of paid social management, and it differs by platform.

On LinkedIn, targeting draws on profile data: job titles or functions, seniority, company size, industry, and lists of named companies you upload. The risk is making an audience so narrow the campaign barely delivers.

On Meta, the useful audiences are often your own: people who visited your site, people who engaged with your ads or page, and customer lists you upload, which Meta hashes before matching. Lookalikes built from those lists find similar people. Broad targeting, letting the algorithm find responders, is also common now.

Audiences need upkeep. Customer lists go stale, website audiences depend on the pixel firing, and exclusions keep existing customers from seeing prospecting ads.

What drives the cost of paid social management

Fees for paid social work vary mainly with how much creative and how many audiences the job involves.

Creative production is often the largest variable. A provider adapting images and copy you supply does less work than one designing and editing new video every few weeks.

Platforms and campaigns add up. Running Meta and LinkedIn together means two accounts, two tracking setups and two sets of lead forms.

Tracking state matters at the start. A site with no pixel, no Conversions API and no CRM connection needs setup work before any ad runs.

Cadence also counts: weekly refreshes and written summaries take more hours than a monthly check. Ad spend itself is billed by Meta or LinkedIn to you, apart from the fee.

Questions about paid social campaigns

Who owns the Facebook Page and ad account?

Your business should. The Page, Instagram account, ad account, pixel and customer lists belong in a Meta business portfolio owned by you, with the provider added as a partner. LinkedIn works the same way: your Company Page and Campaign Manager account, with the provider added as a user.

Can you produce the ad creative?

That depends on the service partner and the scope you agree. Some produce images, short video and copy; some adapt material you supply; some write briefs for your designer. Mention in your quote request what material you already have, and the partner will say how they would handle it.

How do lead form submissions reach my CRM?

Usually through an integration. HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive offer connections for Meta and LinkedIn lead forms, and connector tools can send submissions to a CRM or shared inbox. A CSV download from the platform is the fallback. The connection should be tested with a real submission after setup.
